Case 18 Discussion

Lateral compression pattern of pelvic ring disruption. Note the overlapping obturator ring fractures on the right on the computer generated "scout image" for the CT. The CT images show the typical crush or "buckling" fracture of the sacrum seen in the lateral compression injury. The lateral force deforms the injured side causing the characteristic overlapping pubic rami fractures and the crushing of the sacrum. At times internal rotation of the involved hemipelvis may be evident on the plain films or CT. (44.400)
