Case 40 Discussion

Right posterior sternoclavicular dislocation. Note the displacement of the subclavian vessels on the right.

Proximity of the clavicle to critical structures such as the great vessels, trachea, esophagus and brachial plexus poses significant risk of serious complications. Most are anterior and the posterior dislocation accounts for less than 1% of such injuries. (47.400)
