Case 51 Discussion

Sickle cell anemia with characteristic "H" shaped vertebrae. The vascular supply to the vertebral body consists of radially oriented end-arteries going from peripheral to central. It is felt that ischemia to the centrum of the vertebral body causes this loss of central height. (30.651)
