Case 9 DiscussionOllier's disease.(41.1543) Unlike multiple hereditary exostoses (MFE), this entity is not hereditary. Both Ollier's and MFE may undergo malignant degeneration, with 25% of patients with the former having malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma by the age of 40. New onset of pain is often present when such malignancies occur. Unlike MFE, Ollier's may be unilateral or predominantly unilateral. The two conditions usually do not co-exist, but when they do the condition is known as metachondromatosis. ref: Sartoris DJ, Musculoskeletal Imaging. The Requisites. 1996, Mosby. pp.209-210.
