Case 47b DiscussionSpontaneous osteonecrosis. This patient is younger that most women presenting with this entity-most are over 60. The medial femoral condyle is often involved as in this case. Although osteopenia with insufficiency fracture have been implicated in the etiology, this patient had no evidence of osteoporosis. Associated meniscal tears have been noted, although she had no grade 3 signal, only grade 2 (below). She had no known risk factors for AVN.
